Supreme Court halts mining in Aravalli range; Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav reacts

Desk: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s new decision regarding the definition of the Aravalli mountain range and the mining issue. In its ruling, the Supreme Court stayed its previous order concerning the Aravalli hills and directed the formation of a new committee to study the matter.

Welcoming the order, the Union Minister said that the government is fully committed to the protection of the Aravalli hills. He said that the Ministry of Environment would provide all necessary support to this new committee formed by the Supreme Court. He also clarified that a complete ban on new mining leases or the renewal of old leases in the Aravalli range remains in effect.


Union Minister Bhupender Yadav shared a post on the social media platform X welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision. In the post, Bhupender Yadav said, “I welcome the Supreme Court’s directions to stay its order related to the Aravalli range and to constitute a new committee to study the issues.”

He added, “We are committed to providing all the assistance sought by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in the protection and restoration of the Aravalli range. As per the current situation, a complete ban on mining continues with regard to new mining leases or the renewal of old mining leases.”
