Trump Drops Tariff Bomb on Countries Doing Business with Iran, Imposes 25 Percent Tax

January 13, 2026

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has taken extremely harsh action against Iran. Trump has announced the imposition of tariffs on countries doing business with Iran.

Trump said that the US will impose a 25 percent tariff on any country doing business with Iran, which will increase economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners. The US President announced this tariff on his social media platform Truth Social.

  • He stated that this tariff will be implemented with immediate effect. Trump said that any country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will have to pay a 25 percent tariff on all business conducted with the United States, and this will be effective immediately. This order is final.

Trump’s decision comes amidst heightened tensions between the US and Iran over the ongoing protests. Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran. Now, to cripple Iran’s economy, Trump has announced tariffs on those doing business with the country. However, this could also affect America’s relations worldwide, as Iran’s partners include not only neighboring countries but also countries like India, Turkey, China, and the United Arab Emirates.

Trump’s decision does not yet include any details on how this tariff will be implemented, which countries will be affected, and whether any exemptions will be granted.

    US-Iran Tensions
There is immense tension between the US and Iran due to the protests. Anti-government protests have been ongoing in Iran for more than two weeks. It is claimed that nearly 600 people have been killed in these protests so far, while more than 10,670 people have been detained.

The US and Trump have supported the protesters. Trump has repeatedly threatened that the US will help the protesters if they are killed or subjected to violence. Moreover, the White House says that Trump is considering all options for taking action against Iran, including the option of airstrikes. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other Iranian leaders are blaming the United States and Israel for these protests. Khamenei has also openly warned the US on several occasions. Just a few days ago, he said that Trump should focus on managing his own country.
