New Delhi: The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has arrested five people, including a Pakistani national, Salim Malik, on charges of stalking and harassing women near JR Kinshicho Station. The group was offering various “services” to women passing by the station at a rate of 3,000 yen (approximately $23) per hour and using obscene language towards them.
According to the investigation, more than 200 complaints of harassment and solicitation had been filed from this station alone in the past year. Police said these individuals repeatedly approached women, attempting to lure and harass them.
Several women had complained that they were being followed and aggressively approached by these touts. Authorities have issued a warning to the public, advising them not to engage in any conversation with or follow such suspicious individuals.
Action Taken After More Than 200 Complaints
The area around Tokyo’s busy Kinshicho Station was becoming increasingly unsafe for women. Police records show that over the past year, women had complained more than 200 times about being constantly harassed there. Following this, the police launched a special campaign, during which the group was caught red-handed offering offensive propositions to women.
5 Touts, Including a Pakistani National, Apprehended
Among those arrested is a man of Pakistani origin, who was working with others to carry out this illegal activity. These individuals were enticing women with money per hour to engage in “real sex” and other obscene services. Police say this arrest is a significant step towards protecting women from aggressive solicitation in the area.
Police Warning for Public Safety…
The Tokyo Police have issued a public advisory following these arrests. The police have clearly stated that people should stay away from touts operating at railway stations and in crowded areas. Under no circumstances should you accept any offers from them or go anywhere with them. The authorities are now planning to increase security and patrols around the station to completely curb such incidents.
