Hindu students shield Muslim students offering namaz at Lucknow University! Allegations of sealing the mosque

Lucknow: The Lucknow University administration sealed the historic Lal Baradari building and the mosque gate inside it for security reasons and erected barricades. Student leaders and Muslim students protested strongly on campus against this action. The university took this step to prevent any potential danger from the dilapidated ASI-protected building. In response, the students dismantled the barricades and offered namaz outside the mosque. During this time, Hindu students, setting an example of communal harmony, formed a security cordon behind the worshippers, acting as a shield.

Locked on Historic Building
The Lal Baradari is a nearly 200-year-old historical structure, built by Nawab Nasiruddin Haider in 1800 AD. The building predates the university’s founding and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Students allege that the administration closed the ancient mosque section without any prior notice. Angered by this sudden action, a large number of students gathered in front of the Baradari and began shouting slogans against the administration.

An interesting scene unfolded on the university campus during the protest. When Muslim students began praying outside the mosque gates due to the mosque being closed, their Hindu friends came to their rescue. Holding hands, Hindu students formed a protective chain around the students praying. This video is now rapidly going viral on social media, showing the students breaking down religious barriers and expressing a message of unity.

Administration’s Argument: The Building Is Dilapidated
Justifying its action, the university administration stated that the Lal Baradari building is completely damaged and could collapse at any time. According to the Registrar, the bank, club, and canteen located there also need to be evacuated for security reasons. The administration stated that they wrote several letters to the ASI, but when they received no response, they barricaded the area for security reasons. An attempt was made to persuade the students in the presence of police to bring the situation under control.

The issue of the mosque being sealed and the student protests is now gaining momentum. The protesting students spoke with Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi over the phone regarding the matter. They detailed their concerns and demands. Imran Pratapgarhi assured the students that he would raise their voices at the appropriate forum and fully support them in this matter. For now, the students are adamant that the protest will continue until the gate is opened.
