New Delhi: Four days have passed since the results of the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu were declared, yet the suspense surrounding the formation of the government persists. The TVK—led by Thalapathy Vijay—which emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats in these elections, is currently engaged in efforts to secure the requisite majority figure. Vijay has been visiting the Raj Bhavan to hold meetings with the Governor, but the uncertainty remains unresolved. Amidst all this, a new controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu politics.
AMMK party chief TTV Dhinakaran has accused Vijay’s party of submitting a forged letter—purporting to convey his party’s support—to the Governor, stating that they intend to file a criminal complaint regarding the matter. He asserted that a letter expressing support for the TVK had been issued in the name of his MLA, Kamaraj. Dhinakaran added, “I secured an appointment to meet the Governor and showed him the authentic letter—the one I had received from our Chief Ministerial candidate, Palaniswami.”
He further stated, “I subsequently learned that the TVK had submitted a forged photocopy of that very letter.” Dhinakaran noted that the Governor had requested to see the original letter. Declaring the act to be forgery, he announced, “We are now proceeding to file a criminal complaint.” While staking a claim to form a government under the leadership of the AIADMK, Dhinakaran stated, “We will seek support from other political parties and, after meeting with the Governor, formally present our claim to form the government.”
Following these statements, Dhinakaran arrived at the Guindy Police Station in Chennai and submitted a formal complaint to the police regarding the forged letter incident. Dhinakaran has lodged a complaint with the police, leveling allegations of forgery against the TVK. Meanwhile, Vijay’s party has refuted Dhinakaran’s allegations and, in response, released a video featuring AMMK MLA S. Kamaraj. In a video released by the Vijay-led TVK, AMMK MLA Kamaraj is seen expressing his support for Vijay. Kamaraj—the AMMK’s sole legislator—appears stating that the decision to extend support to the TVK was taken with Dinakaran’s consent. While releasing this video, Vijay’s party asserted that they have no need to bargain or negotiate with anyone.
Earlier, TTV Dinakaran had accused Vijay of attempting to poach legislators. He had also lodged a complaint with the Governor regarding the disappearance of his party’s sole MLA, S. Kamaraj. However, shortly after midnight, Dinakaran returned to the Raj Bhavan. This time, he was accompanied by his party’s MLA, Kamaraj. Dinakaran read out a letter and claimed that the letter pledging support to the AIADMK—which he had submitted to the Governor—was the only valid one.
