Chhatarpur: A sensational incident has come to light in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, involving a life-threatening attack on Congress leader Mahum Singh Bundela—alias ‘Halke Raja’—stemming from electoral disputes and long-standing political rivalries. On Monday, near the Imaliya Tiraaha (crossroads), assailants intercepted his vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is reported to be critical.
The incident reportedly took place in Vikrampur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Rajnagar police station. According to the injured leader’s nephew, Abhay Raj Singh Bundela, Halke Raja was returning to his village from Chhatarpur in a Bolero SUV. En route, a group of 7 to 8 assailants, traveling in 2 to 3 vehicles, surrounded his car. The attackers fired approximately 6 to 7 rounds and also assaulted him using baseball bats.
Undergoing Treatment in Gwalior
During the attack, Halke Raja sustained bullet injuries to both his legs, his thigh, and his shoulder. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene. The injured leader was initially taken to a local hospital; however, after receiving primary treatment there, he was referred to Gwalior due to the severity of his condition. His family members have accused several individuals—including Lokpal Singh Bundela, Virendra Singh Bundela, and Satyam Singh, all residents of the same village—of carrying out the attack. They allege that the accused are affiliated with a rival political party and that the crime was committed as a result of a long-standing electoral feud.
Bullet Injuries to Both Hands and Legs
Dr. Aniruddha Chaturvedi, a physician at the hospital, stated that the injured leader was admitted in a critical condition. He bears bullet wounds on both his hands and legs. A team of doctors is currently treating him in the ICU, and a surgical procedure is underway. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajat Saklecha stated that preliminary investigations suggest the incident is linked to a long-standing personal rivalry. The police have collected evidence from the crime scene and have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused. An FIR will soon be registered against the accused, and steps will be taken to arrest them.
