Terrorist organizations linked to Al-Qaeda, in coordination with Tuareg rebels, launched simultaneous attacks across several parts of the country. The country’s Defense Minister, Sadio Camara, lost his life in this assault. The scale of this attack has been so massive that the eyes of the entire world are now fixed on Mali.

The two groups joined forces to strike simultaneously at multiple locations. This is being described as the largest and most organized attack seen in the country in several years. Coordinated attacks occurred near the capital, Bamako; in regions rich in gold mines; and across various other parts of the country. The French radio station RFI reported that JNIM terrorists attacked the Kati military base, located just outside Bamako. This is the very location where Mali’s Defense Minister, Sadio Camara, resided. His residence was targeted in the attack, and he was killed in the incident.

The attacks did not cease on Saturday. On Sunday, too, sounds of gunfire were heard emanating from a military cantonment situated near the capital. A Reuters journalist personally reported witnessing this incident.
