Bhopal. Following the ongoing political turmoil in Datia, former Home Minister Narottam Mishra arrived in the capital, Bhopal, from his hometown, Dabra, on Saturday. Mishra reached the CM House late in the evening, where he met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, State President Hemant Khandelwal, and Regional Organization General Secretary Ajay Jamwal.
Upon leaving the CM House, Narottam Mishra told the media, “We had a substantive and very positive discussion. We talked about winning Datia; we are going to win Datia. I want to urge the party workers to maintain patience and calm. Things are gradually falling into place. I will definitely be present for the nomination filing on the 13th—that is, Monday.”
‘I have not received any resignations’
Meanwhile, BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal stated, “The Bharatiya Janata Party has declared Ashutosh Tiwari as its official candidate for the Datia by-election. It has come to my notice that some party workers from Datia have tendered their resignations. However, I have not personally received any resignation. Our party leadership has decided that all workers should get to work there; therefore, we have not accepted anyone’s resignation. Narottam Mishra is a senior leader of ours. We will contest the Datia election under his guidance and win with a massive majority. Today, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Regional Organization Secretary Ajay Jamwal, and I held discussions with Narottam Mishra regarding this matter. All of us workers will come together to win this election for the party with a historic majority.”
‘No worker’s resignation will be accepted’
BJP Media In-charge Ashish Usha Agrawal stated that senior party leader Narottam Mishra paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal, and Regional Organization General Secretary Ajay Jamwal at the Chief Minister’s residence. The meeting involved detailed discussions regarding preparations for the Datia Assembly by-election and organizational matters. It was affirmed on this occasion that the party is paramount and that all workers stand fully committed to the organization’s decisions.
Agrawal clarified that the resignations submitted by some workers in the heat of the moment regarding the Datia by-election have not been accepted. The BJP organization has decided that no worker’s resignation will be accepted. All workers must now campaign with full unity, enthusiasm, and dedication to ensure a resounding victory for party candidate Ashutosh Tiwari. The BJP is set to secure a record-breaking victory in the Datia by-election.
What is the Datia situation?
The by-election for the Datia Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh is scheduled for July 30, with vote counting taking place on August 3. This election was necessitated after the incumbent Congress MLA, Rajendra Bharti, was sentenced to three years in prison and disqualified by a court in a fraud case. For this vacant seat, the Congress has fielded Ghanshyam Singh of the Datia royal family as its official candidate, whereas the BJP has opted for a new face—Ashutosh Tiwari—after denying a ticket to its stalwart leader and former Home Minister, Narottam Mishra.
Angered by this BJP decision, Narottam Mishra’s supporters staged a rebellion on Friday, causing major disturbances and road blockades in Datia. Seizing the opportunity, the Shiv Sena (UBT) extended an open offer to Mishra to contest the election on their ticket, promising that Uddhav Thackeray would personally campaign for him. However, following a ‘damage control’ meeting late Saturday night with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and top BJP leaders, Narottam Mishra put an end to speculation about a rebellion and announced that he would campaign in support of the BJP candidate.
