New Delhi: Maulana Sajid Rashidi has made a controversial statement about relationships between Muslim girls and Hindu boys, claiming that an increasing number of Muslim girls are becoming attracted to Hindu men.
Speaking about relationships before marriage, Rashidi said that Islam does not permit romantic relationships or spending time alone with the opposite sex before marriage. He claimed that interactions between young men and women have increased significantly in recent years and alleged that some Muslim girls are becoming attracted to Hindu boys and their social-media profiles.
Rashidi’s Claims About Interfaith Relationships
Rashidi further claimed that some Muslim girls have left Islam after entering relationships with Hindu boys. He also alleged that thousands of girls have gone away with Hindu men and claimed that some have subsequently been killed.
These claims were presented by Rashidi as part of his argument about the changing nature of relationships among young people. He compared the situation with social interactions in Europe and said that increased interaction between young men and women has contributed to changing preferences.
Why Does Rashidi Say Some Girls Prefer Hindu Boys?
Explaining his view, Rashidi claimed that some Muslim girls feel uncomfortable speaking with Muslim boys because conversations may involve religious obligations, the Deen and Islamic rules of conduct.
According to him, Hindu or atheist boys do not impose similar religious restrictions, which he argued can make them more appealing to some girls.
Rashidi appealed to Muslim girls to follow Islamic teachings and maintained that romantic relationships and spending time together privately before marriage are prohibited in Islam.
What Did Rashidi Say About Meeting Before Marriage?
Rashidi clarified that Islam permits conversations when they are intended to discuss marriage and help both sides understand each other.
However, he argued that casually dating, roaming around together or spending time alone before marriage is contrary to Islamic teachings.
Rashidi Has Previously Sparked Controversy
This is not the first time Sajid Rashidi has attracted attention for his remarks. He recently made controversial comments concerning Kanwar pilgrims, reportedly comparing some people involved in unruly incidents during the Kanwar Yatra with terrorists and drug addicts.
His remarks drew criticism, including from Pandit Dhirendra Shastri of Bageshwar Dham, who rejected the characterization of Kanwariyas as terrorists.
Shastri said that millions of Kanwariyas undertake the pilgrimage peacefully and questioned why the entire community of pilgrims should be associated with the actions of individuals accused of violence or vandalism. He also urged Rashidi to exercise caution while making such statements.
Rashidi’s latest comments about Muslim girls and Hindu boys have once again triggered discussion over interfaith relationships, religious norms and changing social attitudes among young people.
