
New Delhi: The Central Government has issued a notification regarding the ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Act, 2025.’ According to this notification, the regulatory body—the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI)—will become operational starting May 1.
The Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will serve as the Chairperson of the Online Gaming Authority of India. Its members will include the Joint Secretaries from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Department of Legal Affairs.
This Authority will function as a digital office operating under the aegis of the Ministry of IT. The Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) will be responsible for designating online games and overseeing their registration. It will also possess powers such as issuing directives and guidelines regarding data security and preservation.
