New Delhi. In the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, the Government of India is running a special operation named “Operation Sindhu” to ensure the safe return of its citizens. Under this, a special plane carrying 285 Indians arrived at Delhi Airport from Iran at 11:10 pm on Sunday. Apart from these, 162 Indians have safely reached Jordan from the Israeli war zone, who will be brought to Delhi soon.
Possibility of situation worsening after US attack
The Indian government launched Operation Sindhu last week after tensions between Iran and Israel escalated significantly. Both countries have carried out hundreds of missile and drone attacks on each other’s cities, military and strategic bases. The situation has become more serious after the US bombed three major nuclear bases of Iran on Sunday morning.
In view of this threat, India started evacuating Indian citizens through chartered flights from Iran’s Mashhad city, Armenia’s capital Yerevan and Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat. On Friday, Iran eased airspace restrictions, allowing three flights to take off from Mashhad.
Indians being brought via Armenia, Turkmenistan
The first flight of Operation Sindhu reached New Delhi on Friday night, carrying 290 Indians. After this, the second flight arrived on Saturday afternoon, carrying 310 citizens. A special flight from Armenia’s capital Yerevan also reached India on Thursday. At the same time, another flight from Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat landed at Delhi’s IGI Airport on Saturday morning.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies and the Ministry of Civil Aviation have together ensured that no Indian has to remain in danger. All evacuation flights have been chartered and necessary medical and counseling assistance is also being provided. The government has clarified that this operation will continue until the situation becomes normal and every effort will be made to bring every Indian citizen home safely.
