PM Modi will address the Parliament of Ghana, will also visit Indian community events and Black Star Square

New Delhi. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday. This visit to Ghana was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister in more than 30 years. PM Modi was welcomed as soon as he stepped on Ghanaian soil. President John Mahama gave him a formal guard of honour. Later, Prime Minister Modi held a delegation level meeting with President Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra.

India signs 4 MoUs with Ghana
India and Ghana signed four agreements in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ghana President John Dramani Mahama.


MoU on Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP): Aims to promote greater cultural understanding and exchange in art, music, dance, literature and heritage. MoU between Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Ghana Standards Authority (GSA): It aims to enhance cooperation in standardization, certification and conformity assessment.

MoU between Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (ITAM) of Ghana and Institute of Ayurveda Education and Research (ITRA) of India: It aims to cooperate in traditional medicine education, training and research. MoU on Joint Commission Meeting: It aims to institutionalize high-level dialogue and review bilateral cooperation mechanisms on a regular basis.

Modi welcomed in traditional style
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed in the traditional style of Ghana, which included music and dance, which reflects the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the significance of this visit and called it a historic moment and a symbol of the lasting bond between India and Ghana during their common struggles against colonialism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed by a large number of people of the Indian community on his arrival at the hotel in Accra. More than 15,000 expatriates live in Ghana.

PM Narendra Modi in GhanaAfter this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a delegation-level meeting with President Mahama at Jubilee House in Accra. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and reviewed progress in various areas of mutual interests.

Prime Minister Modi also said in a social media post, “Landed in Accra, Ghana. I am honored to be welcomed at the airport by President John Dramani Mahama. Our countries are ready to work together to strengthen our long-standing relations and explore new avenues of cooperation.”

The visit to Ghana is the first leg of Prime Minister Modi’s extensive diplomatic visit, after which he will visit Trinidad and Tobago from July 3 to 4. He will then visit Argentina on July 4 and 5. In the fourth leg of his visit, the Prime Minister will attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil and will also participate in a state visit. The last leg of the visit will be completed in Namibia.

What is the plan ahead?
PM Modi will address the Parliament of Ghana and interact with more than 15,000 Indian community. His discussions with President John Dramani Mahama will focus on agriculture, vaccines, digital public infrastructure and defence, while talks will be held on trade and investment partnership. Along with this, PM Modi will visit Black Star Square.

PM Modi’s visit to Ghana will end on July 3. After this, he will visit Trinidad and Tobago on July 3-4 and Argentina on July 4-5. During this, he will meet President Javier Miley and hold talks on trade, energy, investment and renewable energy. In Trinidad and Tobago, Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be full of cultural resonance as the country is celebrating the 180th anniversary of the arrival of Indians. About half the population of the country is of Indian origin and both the President and the Prime Minister consider their ancestors’ connection with India.

PM Modi will be in Brazil from July 5 to 8. Here he will participate in the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. Will hold bilateral talks with many leaders including the President of Brazil.

PM Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Namibia on 8 and 9 July. Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Namibia. Here he will meet President Nandi-Ndietwagh. During this, mineral and energy partnership will be discussed.
