Saharanpur: In connection with the road blockade and commotion that occurred outside the DIG’s office in Saharanpur, UP, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against several individuals, including Kairana MP Iqra Hasan. The FIR regarding this incident has now surfaced; it names seven specific accused individuals and also implicates 20 to 25 unidentified persons. Following the case registered by the police, the political atmosphere in the district has once again heated up.
The incident dates back to May 19, when Kairana MP Iqra Hasan arrived at the DIG’s office accompanied by the mother of the deceased, seeking justice regarding the murder of Monu Kashyap in Jasala village, Shamli district. The MP alleged that the officials failed to provide a satisfactory response. During this time, a large number of supporters gathered outside the DIG’s office, creating a situation akin to a road blockade. As traffic was disrupted, the police detained the MP and took her to the Women’s Police Station; however, she was released shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, some of her supporters were sent to jail under sections related to disturbing the peace.
Angered by the arrest of her supporters, MP Iqra Hasan subsequently staged a sit-in protest along with her party workers at the Sadar Bazar Kotwali (Police Station). A case regarding this entire episode has now been registered based on a written complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Sharma. In addition to MP Iqra Hasan, the FIR names former Minister of State Mangeram Kashyap, along with Tejpal Singh, Ajay, Anuj, Sheeshpal, and Satypal, as accused. The police are currently investigating the matter and have stated that further action will be taken based on video footage and other available evidence.
It is worth noting that recently, the Sadar Bazar Police Station in Saharanpur turned into a political battleground when Kairana MP Iqra Hasan, accompanied by her supporters, staged a sit-in protest inside the station premises. The incident stemmed from an elderly woman’s visit to the DIG’s office to seek justice regarding the murder of her son. When the MP and her supporters present with her protested against the police action, the police detained Iqra Hasan, dropped her off at the border, and sent five of her supporters to jail under charges of disturbing the peace.
Enraged by this action, the MP evaded the police blockade, proceeded directly to the Sadar Bazar police station, and staged a sit-in while engaging in a heated argument with the SP City. In a fit of anger, Iqra Hasan declared, “We demand justice… shoot us, or hang us—we don’t care.” Accusing the government of authoritarianism, she pointed out that the victim—a woman from the Kashyap community—was a BJP voter, yet her family members had been sent to jail.
After nearly three hours of this high-voltage drama, marked by intense sloganeering, the City Magistrate arrived at the scene. The MP finally ended her sit-in only after receiving a firm assurance from the officials that bail would be granted to the jailed supporters and that they would be released by the following morning.
