New Delhi: The monsoon is in full swing in Mumbai. For the past several days, the city has been waking up to rain. Waterlogging caused by the downpour has slowed down vehicular traffic on the roads, although local trains are operating normally. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued ‘Yellow’ and ‘Orange’ alerts for rain in Andheri, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and several parts of Mumbai.
Persistent rainfall has led to waterlogging issues in many areas of Mumbai. Roads have turned into ponds, and traffic has stalled in several localities due to the accumulated water; elsewhere, vehicle speeds have slowed significantly.
Commuters are facing difficulties stepping out of their homes. Severe waterlogging has been reported in areas such as Andheri Subway, Malad, Jogeshwari, Kurla, Mulund, and Kanjurmarg. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised people to avoid these waterlogged areas.

Meanwhile, the Andheri Subway (underpass) has once again become so waterlogged that it was closed to traffic around 8:00 AM today. It is worth noting that the Andheri Subway is a crucial link connecting the eastern and western parts of Mumbai. Thousands of vehicles and people pass through it daily, but during the monsoon, water accumulation often necessitates its closure.
The Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall for Mumbai and most parts of Maharashtra on Wednesday, July 1. The skies remain overcast, with moderate to heavy rain occurring in some places. According to the IMD, these weather conditions are likely to persist for the next few days.
An ‘Orange’ alert has been issued for Mumbai for July 1, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and winds blowing at speeds of 40–50 kmph. It is worth noting that while the monsoon arrived in Mumbai 13 days later than usual this year, it is now fully active. Water levels in the city’s reservoirs are being replenished—which is good news—but heavy rainfall is disrupting daily life. Given the current weather conditions, moderate to heavy rain is likely to continue in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and surrounding areas from July 5 to July 6.
