Indore. A tense situation arose in Mhow (MP) near Indore on Sunday night when two groups came face to face during the celebration of India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy. The incident took place near Jama Masjid, where a dispute escalated between the people taking out a procession and another side. The clash turned into stone pelting, causing chaos in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, when the procession taken out to celebrate India’s victory reached near the mosque, an argument started between the two sides, which took a violent turn in no time. The miscreants started pelting stones at the people celebrating, injuring many people. As soon as the situation went out of control, some anti-social elements started vandalizing vehicles. According to the report, two vehicles and two shops were set on fire.
On the other hand, as soon as the information was received, a heavy police force reached the spot. Indore Rural and Indore City Police Force were deployed on the spot to control the situation. The police took immediate action and dispersed the crowd and restored peace in the area. Apart from this, army personnel have also been deployed. However, Mhow is an army cantonment and many army units are always deployed here, so there is no need to call the army separately in the area.
Mhow Police Administration said that the situation is under control at the moment, but additional police force will be deployed in the area as a precaution. The people involved in the incident are being identified and strict action will be taken against the culprits. The administration has appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumors and maintain peace.
Indore Collector Ashish Singh said that the situation is under control and security forces have been deployed in the area. How this happened will be ascertained later. At present, the situation is under control.
At the same time, local people said that this incident spread panic in many areas of the city and many vehicles were set on fire. A group of cricket lovers had organised a rally to celebrate India’s final win against New Zealand. However, as they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of people started pelting stones at them, leading to chaos and forcing them to flee, abandoning their motorcycles. Some people then set the vehicles on fire, further escalating the tension.
