New Delhi: Team India has captured the Champions Trophy after 12 years. Shreyas Iyer’s role has been very important in this series win. Whenever the top order failed, Shreyas Iyer not only handled the team with his patient innings but also got the team victory. He stood like a strong wall in the middle order and did not let the pressure come on the other batsmen.
This was Iyer’s performance
Shreyas Iyer is the second highest run getter in this Champions Trophy. Iyer scored 243 runs in 5 matches which includes two brilliant half-centuries. New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra is ahead of him. But Iyer was the highest run scorer in the Indian camp. After him comes Kohli, who scored 218 runs in 5 matches.
This was the performance in every match
Iyer scored 15 runs against Bangladesh in the first match, but against Pakistan, Iyer played a blistering innings of 56 runs. Then he scored 79 runs against New Zealand and in the semi-finals he played an innings of 45 runs and in the final match also Iyer scored 48 runs.
Why is this trophy special for Iyer
This Champions Trophy is like a great comeback for Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has seen many ups and downs in the last few times. BCCI had dropped Iyer from the list of central contracts last year. His place in the team was also not confirmed. But now the way he has batted in the Champions Trophy, Iyer’s place in the team is considered to be confirmed. Iyer had recently revealed that he has made tremendous changes in his game plan.
