Hormuz Crossed, But 8 Iranian Ships Fail to Cross Trump’s ‘Red Line’

April 15, 2026

New Delhi: In the waters of the Gulf, the United States has established a blockade around Iran that is proving impossible to breach. Eight Iranian oil tankers successfully navigated the waves of the Strait of Hormuz, yet they failed to cross the ‘Red Line’ drawn by President Donald Trump. The U.S. Navy has encircled and halted all eight of these vessels in the open sea. America’s objective is crystal clear: to completely cut off Iran’s oil supply, thereby compelling the nation to come to the negotiating table.

The naval blockade imposed by the U.S. against Iran in the Gulf region has now become extremely stringent. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, since the commencement of this operation, the U.S. Navy has intercepted eight oil tankers linked to Iran while they were still at sea.

You may now be wondering: where exactly is this ‘Red Line,’ and how does it function? Consider it this way: while these ships manage to depart from Iranian ports and traverse the Strait of Hormuz, the actual blockade is situated in the Gulf of Oman. The moment a vessel exits Iran, U.S. forces begin tracking it using satellites and drones. Subsequently, as these ships advance toward the Gulf of Oman, U.S. warships intercept them mid-route and force them to turn back. In essence, the ships are able to clear Hormuz, but crossing the American ‘Red Line’ established within the Gulf of Oman is proving to be an insurmountable challenge for them. Citing an American official, the news agency AP reported that this entire strategy is predicated on the principle of “intercept and return.”

  • 90% of Iran’s Trade Halted in Just 36 Hours
Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, has made a significant claim regarding the scope of this entire operation. He has stated unequivocally that the seas of the Middle East are now under the sole dominion of the United States, and that its “maritime superiority”—or naval supremacy—remains intact. According to Cooper, within just 36 hours of the blockade being implemented, Iran’s seaborne trade was brought to a complete halt. He further noted that approximately 90 percent of Iran’s economy relies on international maritime trade; consequently, this action has had a direct impact on its economic activities.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his firm stance regarding Iran’s nuclear program. He asserted that the possession of a nuclear bomb by Iran is unacceptable. Trump also clarified that, for the time being, he is not considering extending the ceasefire. Currently, U.S. activity has intensified in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. The movement of vessels is being subjected to strict surveillance, and every activity is being closely monitored. This entire sequence of events unfolds at a time when tensions in the region are already running high, and the situation is being closely watched at the diplomatic level as well.
