
New Delhi: The counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly Elections is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Security arrangements across Bengal have been significantly tightened in anticipation of the election results. An atmosphere of tension prevailed near the strong room complex located at Asansol Engineering College when a switched-off mobile phone, enclosed within a sealed envelope, was recovered from a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle bore the inscription “Raniganj Assembly Constituency No. 278.”
Envelope Bears Name of Raniganj Assembly Constituency
It is reported that as the vehicle attempted to enter the strong room complex, representatives from various political parties present at the scene stopped it on grounds of suspicion and conducted a search. During the search, a sealed envelope was discovered inside the vehicle. Upon opening the envelope, a switched-off mobile phone was found alongside certain documents related to the Raniganj Assembly constituency.
Officials Fail to Provide Satisfactory Explanation
When individuals present at the site questioned the election official regarding the presence of a mobile phone inside a sealed envelope, the official expressed ignorance of the matter. The official identified himself as the “Infrastructure In-charge” but was unable to provide a clear explanation as to how the mobile phone ended up inside the envelope.
Complaint to be Lodged with the Election Commission
Following this incident, an atmosphere of tension prevailed within the complex for a brief period. Representatives from various political parties have announced their intention to lodge a formal complaint regarding this entire matter with the Election Commission.
