Suspense Over Power in Tamil Nadu Ends; Vijay to Take Oath as Chief Minister Tomorrow

New Delhi: Saturday is set to be a historic day for Tamil Nadu. TVK chief Vijay will take the oath as Chief Minister tomorrow at 11:00 AM, marking the moment the state receives its new Chief Minister. Late on Friday evening, the state’s Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, extended an invitation to him to form the government. Following a meeting held at the Governor’s House, Vijay accepted this historic responsibility. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also expected to attend the Chief Minister’s swearing-in ceremony.

Vijay’s entry into politics has ushered in a new wave, distinct from the world of cinema. His party, the TVK, has garnered tremendous support among the youth, women, and the general public. His journey from actor to politician has completely transformed the political landscape of Tamil Nadu. People are now pinning new hopes on issues such as development, education, healthcare, and employment. This is precisely why his rallies witnessed massive crowds, and despite contesting elections for the very first time, the party delivered a spectacular performance.

In the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the TVK has emerged as the single largest party, securing 108 seats. To form a government, a majority of 118 seats is required in the Legislative Assembly. The TVK has now secured support from other parties as well, enabling it to reach this requisite figure.

According to reports, 5 Congress MLAs have pledged their support to the TVK. The CPI has extended the support of its 2 MLAs, while the CPI(M) has also backed the party with its 2 MLAs. Additionally, the IUML and VCK have each extended the support of 2 MLAs. Consequently, the TVK now commands the support of a total of 120 MLAs.

What Challenges Lie Ahead for Vijay?
Political analysts believe that the greatest challenge facing Vijay now will be translating his electoral promises into tangible reality on the ground. The public harbors high expectations of him regarding employment generation, a better education system, improvements in healthcare services, and increased investment. Conversely, his supporters assert that Vijay’s government has the potential to usher in a new political culture and a new administrative model in Tamil Nadu.
