MP: Former CM Digvijay Singh Says—Modi Government Is Implementing My Model… Thank You for That!

May 15, 2026

Bhopal. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, recently shared a post on social media in which he noted that the Central Government is adopting a decision originally made by his administration. He pointed out that the Modi government is set to implement the ‘Parent-Teacher Association’ (PTA) model—which originated during his tenure as Chief Minister—across 1.5 million government schools nationwide. He mentioned that he had taken this decision during his term as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh between 1993 and 2003. Significantly, he also extended his gratitude to the Central Government for this initiative. At the same time, he expressed his objection to the decision to shut down millions of government schools across the country.

  • Addressing this matter in a post shared on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) model from my tenure as Chief Minister is now being implemented by the Central Government in 1.5 million government schools. Thank you. I take pride in the remarkable achievements Madhya Pradesh attained in the field of education during my tenure as Chief Minister from 1993 to 2003. I am pleased that the BJP government has now acknowledged and is implementing my model. Better late than never.”

Objects to the Decision to Close Government Schools
Furthermore, raising an objection to another decision by the Central Government, he stated: “Improvements in the country’s government schools are essential. Millions of government schools are being shut down across the nation. This is not appropriate. Currently, the students studying in government schools are precisely those whose parents cannot afford the fees charged by private schools. The responsibility for managing the system within government schools should be entrusted to the parents of the students. Improving the quality of these government schools is imperative. Jai Siya Ram.” Link to a Party Worker’s Post Shared Alongside His Own

Along with his own post, Digvijaya Singh also shared a link to a post by a party worker. In that post—while providing details regarding the Central Government’s decision—the worker stated: “This refers to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) model pioneered by former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP, Shri Digvijaya Singh Ji—a model that the Central Government is now set to implement in 1.5 million government schools. The remarkable achievements that Madhya Pradesh attained in the field of education during the 10-year tenure of the Honorable Digvijaya Singh Ji as Chief Minister (1993–2003) are truly unprecedented.” At the conclusion of his post, the individual noted: “Digvijaya Singh Ji currently serves as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, and Sports.”

Parent-Teacher Associations Empowered to Make Decisions Worth Up to Several Lakh Rupees
The party worker, whose post the former Chief Minister shared, had also included a link to a news article related to this development, which provided further details regarding the Central Government’s decision. The article stated: “The management of approximately 1.5 million schools across the country will now rest directly in the hands of parents. Under the new regulations, School Management Committees (SMCs) have been granted the financial authority to independently undertake construction works worth up to ₹30 lakh, without requiring prior approval from the Public Works Department (PWD). The Ministry of Education has finalized these reforms in accordance with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009; consequently, schools will no longer function merely as government institutions but will evolve into ‘community assets’.”
