Lucknow: The Yogi government is making significant preparations for the women of Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, work has accelerated on a plan to provide eligible women in the state with free housing and access to better healthcare facilities. Under this initiative, the process of extending benefits from schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Chief Minister’s Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana is being fast-tracked. The Department of Women’s Welfare is currently compiling data on beneficiaries.
Under the government’s plan, eligible women will receive benefits from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Chief Minister’s Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana. The objective is to offer a fresh start to women who are forced to lead insecure lives due to social or familial crises.
Which women will benefit?
According to government preparations, priority will be given to women across three categories: first, those affected by ‘Triple Talaq’; second, acid attack survivors; and third, destitute and helpless women. Work has already begun on a comprehensive plan to provide these women with housing, healthcare, and social security. The government believes that financial aid alone is insufficient; permanent housing and health security are equally essential for a dignified life.
Action initiated following CM Yogi’s directives
In a recent high-level meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued clear instructions to officials to identify women who have faced severe social crises and lack safe housing. The Chief Minister emphasized that linking women affected by incidents such as ‘Triple Talaq’ and acid attacks to government welfare schemes should be a priority. Under this initiative, eligible women will be provided with permanent houses through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or the Chief Minister’s Awas Yojana. Additionally, they and their families will be provided with health insurance and medical treatment facilities under the Ayushman Bharat and Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana schemes.
Department of Women’s Welfare compiling detailed data
To implement this ambitious scheme on the ground, the Department of Women’s Welfare has launched a large-scale data collection drive. The department is gathering verified details regarding women affected by ‘Triple Talaq’ and acid attacks, as well as destitute women. Coordination with various departments is being established to ensure that no eligible woman is deprived of government benefits. According to officials, once beneficiaries are identified, they will be linked to various schemes on a priority basis. The process of formulating the necessary guidelines and government orders at the administrative level is also underway.
Why is this initiative significant?
Experts believe that incidents such as acid attacks and ‘triple talaq’ completely transform a woman’s life. Acid attack survivors require long-term medical treatment, plastic surgery, and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, many women affected by ‘triple talaq’ suddenly find themselves facing economic and social insecurity. In such circumstances, access to safe housing and healthcare can enable them to move towards a self-reliant life once again. This is why the government aims to go beyond mere financial assistance; it is working on a multi-dimensional plan to provide women with lasting security.
Healthcare alongside housing
Another crucial aspect of this government scheme is healthcare. Women facing dire circumstances often lack the resources required for medical treatment. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, eligible families receive cashless treatment facilities worth lakhs of rupees. Similarly, the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana plays a vital role in expanding access to healthcare services. The government intends to ensure that women receiving housing also have equal access to healthcare, allowing them to feel secure about their future.
No beneficiary left out due to lack of information
The Department of Women’s Welfare notes that many eligible individuals often fail to avail themselves of government schemes due to a lack of information or complex procedures. Addressing this issue, the department is gathering data from various districts and devising strategies to disseminate information about these schemes to eligible women. The government aims to spare beneficiary women the hassle of making rounds of multiple offices, ensuring instead that they can access the benefits of these schemes through an integrated system.
