New Delhi: The Pakistani Embassy in Saudi Arabia has issued a fresh warning to Pakistani citizens travelling to the kingdom for Umrah, employment or other purposes, urging them to strictly follow Saudi laws and stay away from begging and other unauthorised activities.
The warning comes amid repeated reports of Pakistani nationals being detained for allegedly begging in Saudi Arabia. In June 2026, reports emerged of Pakistani citizens being apprehended in Riyadh over such activities.
In a video message, the Pakistani Embassy made it clear that begging is a criminal offence in Saudi Arabia and that those violating the law could face serious consequences.
Arrest, Deportation and Entry Ban Possible
The Embassy warned that involvement in illegal begging could result in arrest, imprisonment, deportation and a possible permanent ban on returning to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities have also prohibited begging in all forms. Foreign nationals found guilty can reportedly be deported after completing the applicable sentence.
Embassy Warns Against Unauthorised Activities at Holy Sites
The advisory also urged Pakistani pilgrims visiting the Haramain — Mecca and Medina — to avoid several unauthorised activities.
These include providing unauthorised wheelchair services, offering haircuts or barber services, distributing donations or financial assistance, conducting unauthorised monetary transactions and lending money to others.
The Embassy stressed that pilgrims should focus on their religious obligations and refrain from activities that could violate Saudi regulations.
‘Do Not Tarnish Pakistan’s Image’
Appealing to Pakistani citizens to respect the laws of their host country, the Embassy said responsible behaviour is essential to maintaining Pakistan’s image abroad.
It urged all Pakistani pilgrims and workers to exercise caution and comply strictly with Saudi Arabian laws, warning that violations could have serious personal and legal consequences.
