New Delhi. The will of the late industrialist Ratan Tata has been opened, in which a new name has created a sensation. This name is Mohini Mohan Dutta, who has got a huge amount in the will. This person has been given Rs 500 crore in the will. This disclosure has not only surprised everyone in the Tata family, but it is a big surprise for everyone.
According to a report, an anonymous businessman from Jamshedpur, Mohini Mohan Dutta, has been given an amount of more than Rs 500 crore. After this news came out, the biggest question that is now arising is who is Mohini Mohan Dutta? What was her role in Tata’s life and why did she get the largest personal wealth in the will of one of India’s most famous industrialists?
Who is Mohini Mohan Dutta?
Mohini Mohan Dutta first met Ratan Tata in the early 1960s at the Dealers Hostel in Jamshedpur. At that time, Ratan Tata was 24 years old and was looking for his way in his family’s vast empire. That meeting changed the direction of Dutta’s life. He was considered very close to Ratan Tata.
At the same time, some reports say that Dutta was not just an associate, but he calls himself the adopted son of Ratan Tata. However, the will (Ratan Tata Will) and the codicil given with it clearly state that Ratan Tata never married nor legally adopted children.
At the time of Tata’s funeral in October 2024, Dutta had said that we first met at the Dealers Hostel in Jamshedpur, when Ratan Tata was 24 years old. He helped me and really pushed me forward.
Business is associated with Tata Group
Dutta’s business journey is associated with the Tata Group. After starting his career with the Taj Group, he founded the Stallion Travel Agency, which merged with Taj Services, a division of the Taj Group of Hotels, in 2013.
Tata Industries held an 80% stake in the business before it was acquired by Tata Capital and later sold to Thomas Cook (India). Dutta has been a director in the rebranded TC Travel Services and holds shares in Tata Group companies, including Tata Capital.
The relationship is more than business
Dutta’s relationship with the Tata family extends far beyond business. His daughter worked with Tata Trusts for nearly a decade after starting her career at Taj Hotels. He was also a guest at Tata’s birth anniversary celebrations at NCPA in Mumbai in December 2024. The event was attended by Tata’s most trusted names.
What will the Dutta family get
Despite his deep ties, Dutta has expressed dissatisfaction over the will. According to the will, he is entitled to a third of Tata’s remaining assets, which includes bank deposits worth more than Rs 350 crore, and the proceeds from the auction of personal items such as paintings and watches.
Dutta expects to get Rs 650 crore
The remaining two-thirds go to Ratan Tata’s half-sisters Shirin Jeejeebhoy and Deanna Jeejeebhoy, who are among the will makers along with Tata Trust trustees Darius Khambatta and Mehli Mistry. The report said that Dutta expects his inheritance to be worth Rs 650 crore.
Noel Tata’s name is not there!
Tata’s half-brother Noel Tata and his children are not clearly named in the will, while Jimmy Tata is set to get Rs 50 crore. The will is yet to be certified in the Bombay High Court.
