What did Naidu say on freebies culture?
In response to a question on free schemes (freebies culture), Naidu said that ‘the word freebies is not correct. Earlier there were not many welfare schemes. But NTR (former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao) started many beneficial schemes. Today, wealth is being created in the country but the gap between the rich and the poor is also increasing. Naidu said that ‘welfare schemes should be meaningful and their delivery should be effective.’
‘Both caste and skill census necessary’
Naidu supported both caste census and skill census. He said, ‘Caste, skill based and economic census should be done simultaneously for every citizen. In today’s era, data has become very powerful. With this, public policy can be implemented in a better way.’ The central government has recently approved a nationwide caste census. So far, such census has been done in Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
‘What is wrong in learning Hindi?’
Naidu had earlier supported Hindi as the national language in an interview. This time also he reiterated his same opinion. He said, ‘Local language, mother tongue is important, there can be no compromise in this – whether it is Tamil, Telugu or Kannada. But why can’t we learn Hindi so that we can communicate with North Indians? There is no harm in giving it recognition at the national level.’
‘Amaravati and Hyderabad will become global cities’
Naidu’s opponents accuse him of land scam in the name of Amaravati Greenfield Project. On this he said, ‘Visionary people always think differently. When I started the Hyderabad project, even then the opponents were questioning me. But in a few months I brought water to Hyderabad, called companies.’ He said, ‘I say proudly, Hyderabad and Amaravati will not only become India’s number 1 and number 2 in the future, but will also become global cities.’
