Thoubal: In Manipur’s Thoubal district, unknown gunmen targeted the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) post and looted weapons. Giving information, officials said that on Saturday night, gunmen came in vehicles in Kakamai area of the district and looted weapons from the IRB post. This incident created panic in the area.
Officials said that unknown gunmen came in several vehicles to Kakamai in Thoubal district. During this, they looted at least six SLRs and three AK rifles from the IRB and Manipur Rifles personnel from a post. Apart from this, about 270 ammunition and 12 magazines were also looted. After carrying out the incident, all the gunmen fled from the spot.
This incident created panic. The incident is being investigated. Additional security personnel have been sent to the area to search for the armed men. Officials said that security personnel are conducting search operations everywhere. Every vehicle coming and going is being searched and people are also being questioned.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police has arrested three militants from Imphal West district. An official gave this information on Sunday. He said that on Saturday, the police arrested two militants of the banned group United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei) from Narankonjil area of the district. A .32 pistol and Rs 3,120 in cash have been seized from them. It is being told that both the militants were also involved in extortion activity and illegal smuggling of arms and ammunition.
Apart from this, on Saturday, a militant of the banned organization People’s Liberation Army (PLA) involved in extortion activity was arrested from Kangjabi Lerak Machin area. At present, the police is engaged in interrogating all three militants as well as finding out about their other associates.
