Big change for UPI users… Now payment will be done in just 15 seconds, new rule from June 16!

  • May 03, 2025

New Delhi: UPI payment is going to be even faster, as a big change is going to be implemented from June 16. The National Payments Corporation of India has made a special change to make the Unified Payments Interface service faster and better. The response time for checking transaction status and making payment will be reduced from the current 30 seconds to just 15 seconds.

With this change, the process of sending and receiving money through UPI is expected to become much faster and more efficient for all users. In a circular issued on April 26, NPCI has directed all banks and payment apps to implement the new processing rules from June 16, 2025. UPI processes digital transactions worth about Rs 25 lakh crore every month. In such a situation, this new move of NPCI is expected to improve the speed and reliable service of UPI transactions.

Payment will be done in just 15 seconds
After this change, the response time of Request Pay and Response Pay service has been reduced from 30 seconds to 15 seconds, 10 seconds for check transaction status and transaction reversal and 10 seconds for validate address. The purpose of this change is to speed up the payment process and increase the potential of UPI. These changes are due to the increasing popularity of UPI as a digital payment system in India.

To accommodate this growth and improve the user experience, NPCI has asked banks and payment service providers to update their systems to comply with the new response time. It is important to note that these changes are not intended to compromise transaction success rates.

    When UPI payment was interrupted
This change comes at a time when UPI faced several outages recently. There was a major outage on 12 April, in which many transactions failed and users had to face major problems. There were outages thrice in March and April on 26 March, 1 April and 12 April, due to which people faced a lot of problems in digital payments.

    Why was there an outage?
NPCI’s investigation into these outages revealed that the major reason for these outages was the high load on the check transaction API. Repeated requests were being sent for old transactions of some banks, which increased the pressure on the system and slowed down processing.
