  • February 08, 2025

Mumbai. The Maharashtra Government on Friday disqualified 5 lakh women under the Chief Minister Ladki Bahin Yojana. These women were either receiving benefits from other government schemes or they did not meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme. However, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare clarified that the amount deposited in the bank accounts of these women in the last six months will not be withdrawn.

He said, “The women who have been disqualified will not get the benefit of the scheme from January 2025. Nor will the amount deposited in their accounts between July 2024 and December 2024 be withdrawn. This will not be right under the concept of welfare state.”

According to sources, a total of more than Rs 450 crore has been deposited in the accounts of these 5 lakh women between July 2024 and December 2024. Under this scheme, eligible women are given an amount of Rs 1,500 per month. Out of the women disqualified, 2.30 lakh women are receiving benefits under Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, 1.10 lakh women are above 65 years of age and 1.60 lakh women have four-wheelers and are also beneficiaries of other schemes like “Namo Shetkari Yojana”.

Under the Ladki Behan Yojana, the government gives Rs 1,500 per month to women up to 65 years of age, provided their annual family income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh. Apart from this, there should be no government employee in the beneficiary’s family and he should not have a four-wheeler and he should not get monthly assistance from any other government scheme.

According to the government, there are a total of 2.46 crore beneficiaries under this scheme. This scheme was announced in the last budget for 2024-25 under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Maharashtra government had announced several populist schemes before the assembly elections, which increased the financial deficit of the state. The government had allocated a budget of Rs 46,000 crore for this scheme.
