New Delhi: Just before taking off from Bengaluru to Delhi, a pilot’s health suddenly deteriorated in an Air India plane. The pilot was immediately taken to the hospital and the airline had to arrange for another pilot to take the passengers to their destination.

Air India has confirmed that one of its pilots suddenly fell ill on the morning of July 4. Air India said in a statement, “On the morning of July 4, one of our pilots suddenly fell ill. As a result, the pilot was unable to operate flight AI 2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi and was immediately evacuated to a local hospital.

“His condition is stable at present but he is under observation of doctors at the same hospital,” the airline said. According to sources, the pilot was in the cockpit and was about to sign the tech log – a mandatory document to accept the aircraft for flying – when he collapsed.

Earlier on April 9, a 36-year-old Air India Express official died of a heart attack shortly after landing in Delhi. The pilot fainted minutes after landing and later died in hospital. A group of pilots had alleged that the co-pilot was tired, which necessitated a detailed investigation. India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ordered a detailed probe into the incident.
